One of those books that have sat on my bookshelf since its purchase un-read.  Why did I buy it?  This books cover reminded me of my favorite show at one time, Veronica Mars.  now these two things have a few things in common and I will now always think of the book when I come across my Veronica mars DVD collection.

The Squad is a cover for the training the most unlikely of CIA agents, high school girls varsity cheerleaders.  And their newest recruit is more unlikely to be a cheerleader than all the otehr girls in the school.  What makes her so special to be the next cheerleader?

Toby Klien sees nothing special about herself and neither does the rest of her class at Bayport High School.  But someone seems to think she will make a very good cheerleader.  The mysterious invites to come to an informational meeting about the Varsity Cheerleaders.  Really what do the varsity cheerleaders, the "God Squad" to the students at Bayport High School, want with a girl who would ratehr be changing her grade and her teacher's middle name in the school's computer system.

This book is great with lots of sit on the edge of your seat action as well as lots of teen angst drama.  Don't forget the big evil takedown that is in the works.

If you enjoy books with lots of action meets a love story this is for you.  If you liked Charlie's Angels at any point in your life this will take your interest.

The Review

Scarlett Martin's fifteenth birthday does not go the way she expected, what is supposed to be a huge family breakfast turns into a family meeting about letting go of the last hotel employee.  Then following the tradition of giving a suite of their own to take care of the needs of, gives Scarlett the "Empire Suite".  The least used of the suites due to the coast and because only a few guest ever acutally stay at the hotel at a time seems to be a blessing to Scarlett, that is until ex-actress Amy Amberson moves in the suite.

Mrs. Amberson turns what is going to be a very boring summer into something out of a TV Drama.  Almost getting arrested and taking over her brothers play are just some of the crazy plans taht Mrs. Amberson has for her.  and what is it that is going on between her and her brother's freind/cast member Eric.  Read for the laughs and the love taht happnes to Scarlett during a summer filled with drama on stage and off stage.

Characters

Scarlett Martin
:  Scarlett is just that girl you love, her birthday is the start of the book and it just seems that nothing is going to go right for her.  Her friends have left her for the summer to go and college admission pack pretty much while she can not afford to go and do something like that her plans to get a job are of no use since her parents are going to need help around the hotel.  All of a sudden they have a live in guest just about, who is turning her boring New York Summer upside down.

Spencer Martin:   The oldest of the Martin children and the aspiring actor.  His dreams of being an actor seem to be going nowhere to fast and his parents are about to force him to go to cooking school if he does not get a paid acting job in the next few weeks.  So when he gets cast in the play Hamlet he will do just about anything to keep the job, including work with the Hotel's live in guest and his sister Scarlett.

Lola Martin:  A year younger than Spencer, Lola is the girl you just hate in school, with her perfect looks and perfect boyfriend.  But it seems there is more to her than that of perfection.  Spencer hates the boyfriend Chip and is glad when they do break up, but when it comes to saving the play in the end, it is Chip who is really there to help out.

Marlene Martin:  The youngest of the Martin kids, and the one who gets to do whatever she wants.  Gets the only food that is worth eating on Scarlett's birthday, go to TV Show tapings.  But why does a seemingly spoiled girl really get to do all that is the real mystery.  Maybe it has soemthing to do with the PowerKids that she is a part of.

Amy Amberson:  Amy Amberson or Mrs. Ambersno as she is called through out the book is an ex-broadway star who just got back into the states.  She gets Scarlett a job as her assistant supposedly writing a book for her, but all she seems to be doing is getting her in trouble.  Personally I think Mrs. Amberson is the reason to read the book with all her antics and seeming to show up every time Scarlett needs saving.

Eric:  Spencers acting partner in the play Hamlet and Scarlett's summer crush.  He gives every signal that he likes Scarlett back but he will not ever admit to dating her.  What is really going on with him?

Ok so the challenge is to read your own books in the year 2010.  My goal is read at least 20 of my own books and then post them to paperbackswap.com for others to have the chance to read them.

1.  Suite Scarlett by Maureen Johnson - This book was read on my nook so I can not use paperbackswap.
